On the run?

On the run?

This afternoon (Monday) there was a breakthrough. I went down to Ankerwycke and here is the little bridge – clear for the first time;

These are the logs I saw last night;

That’s not the only odd stuff that’s appeared washed up. I saw a 1980’s milk bottle that must have been scoured up from where it was thrown all those years ago and a flint stone, about fist sized;

There is no flint around here, it’s all clay and silt. Many miles up river is a chalk down, well on the way to Oxford, and flints are found in chalk. In the middle ages, both flint and chalk were used as building materials and this may confirm my worst fears that the few remains of the old priory may have been washed away.

This is Magna Carta Lane beyond the little bridge;

And this is what’s left of the flood;

It's still there but we could be winning.
